Wat Maha That

 

Wat Maha That with the famous image of the Buddha's head in a Banyan tree. This temple ruins are located on the intersection of Chikun Alley and Naresuan Road in the center of old Chiang Rai. It was one of the most important temples of the old Ayutthaya kingdom and held many royal ceremonies and celebrations. In 1767 Ayutthaya and the temple came under attack from Burmese forces and Wat Maha That was set on fire.
