The Mae Kok River long boat tours in Chiang Rai start at the booking office and jetty on Mae Far Luang Alley bridge that spans the Mae Kok river. It is located a few kilometres to the north west of Chiang Rai city.
Take a cheap songtaew (10 person taxi truck) ride near Wat Phra Kaew on Trairat Road up Kraisorasit Road. Some songtaews go up Mae Far Luang road and over the bridge. Avoid paying an overpriced tuk-tuk ride. Ask to be dropped off on the north side of the bridge and walk over the road to the boat tour. Mornings are busy with many tourists. Early afternoons are quiet and easy to book a long boat. Prices vary depending on how far up the river you want to go and what you want to see, but it is much cheaper than making an overpriced hotel tour booking.
